PHILOSOPHY

St. Michael Lutheran School is a faith family, where caring staff and involved parents provide great programs for kids.

Purpose:  To bring children and their families closer to Jesus Christ through the working of the Holy Spirit.

Mission Statement:  St. Michael Lutheran Church, through its school, makes disciples by providing an environment where the entire curriculum is integrated with Christian values that extend into daily life.

STAFF

All teachers are certified in their area of instruction by appropriate agencies.  Preschool meets all state requirements, and is licensed through the state of Michigan.

Several teachers hold degrees beyond the requirements to maintain certification.

All teachers are trained in instructing and living the Christian faith.  This is in holding with our philosophy.

The Pastor plays a key role as the spiritual leader of our school and congregation.

The school and church secretaries have their children enrolled in our school, and did so before they took on these positions.  Thus, they are particularly knowledgeable about our school from a parent standpoint.

Teachers are also involved in school areas beyond their classroom, as well as congregational roles.

PROGRAM

St. Michael Lutheran School offers a full year school program, meeting or exceeding all state requirements.

St. Michael Lutheran School is accredited by three different agencies: The Michigan District, the Michigan Association of Nonpublic School and National Lutheran Schools Accreditation.

St. Michael Lutheran School offers a full program, with preschool for children ages 3 and 4.  Kindergarten students, by state law, must be five by December 1 of the year they begin school.

Detailed curriculum listings for each grade and subject are available in the school office.

St. Michael Lutheran School graduates go on to attend Lutheran High Westland, as well as public schools in all the surrounding school districts.  Several have qualified as national merit scholars.

In addition to academics, St. Michael Lutheran School provides opportunities for students in many fine arts areas.  These include vocal choirs, handbell choirs, band, and an annual school musical

EXTRACURRICULAR

The playground has been renovated, and provides areas for both young children (preschool through grade 3) and older students.

St. Michael participates in the Western Wayne Lutheran League. Sports are available for students in grades 5-8; fall, winter and spring.

HISTORY

St. Michael Lutheran School opened in 1982 with 57 students.   Two of the teachers, Mrs. Banks and Dr. Schmit are currently on staff.  One of those students, Mrs. Matasovsky, is now our kindergarten teacher.

Building programs expanded our facility in 1987 and again in 2000.

ENROLLMENT PROCESS

Enrollment is currently open, but closes as of August 1st.  In special circumstances, students may be admitted after August 1st.

First step in enrollment is to contact the principal for an appointment.  At that time your child will also meet with the teacher from the appropriate grade.

Services available for an additional charge include band, after school care, yearbook, and milk.  Registration fee covers Bibles, songbooks, catechisms, textbooks, copying costs, some field trips and the annual Field Day t-shirt.  A listing of classroom supplies which students need to bring is included with the registration packet, available in the school office.
